Drombeg Stone Circle, County Cork... Ireland

I just returned from Ireland. Although I’ve been there a few times before this time I was traveling with my sister, Mary Ann, who had never visited. I had seen most of the “famous” ancient sites all tourist come to see. But if you’ve ever read any of my ‘passages,’ you’ll know that I’m really drawn to places that are far less known, especially if they include Standing Stones or Stone Circles.

I had informed my sister beforehand, who had never seen a Stone Circle before, that I needed to do only two things on the trip…one was to visit Drombeg Stone Circle and the other to return to St. Bridget’s Well (any one, as there are many in Ireland…note: another passage for a later time) to collect some of her healing water to bring back home. Otherwise, we could do whatever and go wherever she liked. Mary Ann readily agreed and so one very rainy morning we were off. After a 3 ½ hour in a driving downpour we finally arrived at a deserted Drombeg Circle (I love when this happens, by the way). Since it was still pouring, Mary Ann said she‘d rather stay in the car while I went to look. Reluctantly I agreed, but excitedly trudged ahead. What I found was truly magical. I have seen several stone circles in my time but this one was almost unworldly. Maybe it was the mist, or the way the sun filtered thru the rain… but Drombeg Circle shone like a diamond in a field of Irish green. I realized right then that my sister had to see this circle. It didn’t matter whether it was raining or not, I just knew that this would have an impact on her different than anything she’d ever encountered in Nature before. After hiking back to where Mary Ann waited in our nice warm car, I convinced her she “really”  needed to venture out and see this amazing circle. Reluctantly, she agreed and followed me to her first stone circle. Since that day Mary Ann has told everyone about the amazing stone circle she saw on our trip. This of course makes me extremely happy. I now know that the next time we venture out together, she’ll be eager to see others.

As for Drombeg Circle itself, it welcomed me and then gave me even more insight into its purpose and why it still remains today. Although much of the information is similar to what I’d received before, this amazing site reminded me of why it still remains and how that magical link between our worlds is always open. Then again it was Ireland and a day after St. Patrick’s Day. Maybe it was the luck of the Irish, the light at the end of the rainbow…or as I’d like to think …Mary Ann and my… “pot of gold.” It doesn’t matter because I found it was exactly what Drombeg Circle says it was…a reminder that the past is there for anyone that is ready to listen.

Hopefully this passage will have you thinking about where to visit on your next trip. As you’d expect I would suggest anywhere The Stones are… although after this trip Drombeg Circle will always be one of my favorites…hint, hint!

Drombeg Stone Circle, Ireland

You stand here in the rain, once more connecting to the past. It is not known what lies ahead, yet the past and the circle it encompasses may offer guidance… if indeed that is what you seek.

We are seated here in a circle because the distance given (between) each of us becomes intensified when we interact as one unit. Stones, “Standing” as you call them, have many uses, several of which challenge ones like you to see their relevance. This is true, but in reality, this does not matter. Because no matter the being, the significance of each is important to the all as one could not exist without the other.

The distances given often do not compute to those that search. Yet in time will become relevant when they are asked to ‘produce’…to present and show… not only their ability to comprehend what is given, but to teach those that search what the past plays in and for the future.

Relative to proper thinking, the minds of those who purpose their thoughts on society, is not always what is seen. Why? Because the fact that what appears may not be relevant… logically connected with and important to the matter at hand… to those that look for things that others do not. Some search for ways of the past, for times when those predecessors… those that came before… were busily trying to move things further ahead with ideas that had no bearing on the truth.

There are those that resolve to find a way to enlighten a world that they feel has fallen into darkness. To discover within the circle a way to transform the past into the reality of today. The truth being that this does not connect, compute, or come to be known, and thus should be looked on as without real value or worth.

Time witnesses change, and as a circle revolves in, around and thru ages upon ages, each records within themselves, the meaning of one’s existence. Time is relative in our minds but in humanity’s, it remains a notion one must debate.

Our past is like many (stone circles) you have encountered before. Therefore, we must again say that what was left behind still resonates with the past. The efforts we have brought bring enlightenment to many but the ‘recourse’…turning to something for help or protection… is never the same depending upon the age and progression.

Those of the past brought what was needed to light the way to the future, and that is all one can hope for in the ions to come.  It is their choice and thus their effort to move ahead or remain in the past, sometimes to learn, sometimes to linger or at times to reconnect.

You have searched for answers as to why we ‘are’…exist… why we remain and for what purpose… and have been given many answers. Time is relative and so what began as a quest to establish ourselves has grown into a universal search for others unseen, things unknown and cultures yet to come. Long ago others, different beings unlike you, but much the same, traveled here. You have written of these beings and their purpose, many of which have been proven true…at least in the sight of those that know. Yet ancient knowledge is never fleeting, and so what was discounted long ago becomes once again relevant as time moves ahead.

Each stone resonates to a different frequency and these together form a link which ‘incurred’… brought upon one’s self… can produce what is needed to reach other worlds. Many say that we sit ‘recumbent’… just lie there… ever solid, never moving, like a ‘stone’…nevermore relevant to the time and the effort to move on. Yet we remain a symbol of a time when others began what you see now.

It is not always what is obvious that brings forth growth, but the instinctive power to envision the importance of what lies before you.

We as the Stone Circle of Drombeg stand tall, ever present but always aware. We hold the ancient memories of the past and the hope of the future. We remain as a token, given long ago by those that traveled the stars; our history, our intelligence sitting untapped until the time we are awakened again. Progress comes slowly and yet those that search will continue to do so, enacting what is necessary to attain the knowledge we hold. Here we will remain, always open to those such as you. Always aware and always without shame for our existence on this plane.

We wish for all that are worthy to come and sit among us. To feel the Earth resonate with her ancient plan and to realize that time, in whatever dimension, stands open for all to discover.

We are The Stones of Drombeg, open for all who listen.

In Conclusion: “Open for all to listen.” That’s what Drombeg Circle tells us  to do… and yet do we? The past lingers in all our minds, ancient mysteries that, as of yet, have only begun to be discovered. There are countless theories of why these circles were built and why they still remain centuries later. What was their purpose and why do some of us continue to be drawn to something that most people consider worthless slabs of rock?

Those of us that visit these ‘sacred sites’ (as they are often called) may not be able to express it in words, but there is an inner calling that draws us to them…urging us to find those hidden answers. And so, we continue to search, to speculate, to envision when as Drombeg tells us that we only need to listen.

“Sure,” you say, “that’s easy for the stones to say. Not everyone can connect like “she who types” (as the Nature Spirits call me). Not true.

I agree with Drombeg. The answers are there if you listen. It may sound stupid but your inner voice, the one that called you there in the first place, is always open…you just have to take the time to become a part of their world… and it will come. Maybe a word at first and then a sign, a few sentences and then more. Just remember that the past is always open and the knowledge is there. The good news is, Drombeg Circle has personally invited everyone who wants to find the answers to visit. Sounds like a plan to me.   Cheri
