Behold the Home of
Pelehonuamea Volcanoes National Park, The Big
Island of Hawaii
Notice: Before I start let me say that I have a new website/blog. Since I have not transferred sites yet I will be publishing all my channeling (which I now call passages) here as well as on
elementallyspeakingblog.wordpress.com If you wish to see the last few blogs I've written please go to the site above. The Nature Spirits and I thanks you so much for your support. Cheri
We hadn’t been to
the big Island of Hawaii for many years but since our nephew Jack had never
been and wanted to see the famous volcanoes (and of course I wanted to hear
from them myself) this was our first stop (after snorkeling, thus the previous passage,
‘The Coral’) on our Hawaiian trip.
The first thing I
have to say is that Volcanoes National Park is amazing. Not only can one view
the open and steaming caldera of Kilauea from a huge viewing window in the
Volcano House Inn…at night it actually comes alive, glowing beautiful and red
with activity. Here one can actually walk out among the many vents still
spewing out scalding steam from the earth below.
The docents at the
park are amazing and the two-guided tours we took answered many questions about
the origin of the volcanoes (there are 5 volcanoes on this one island alone)
and about the many recent eruptions. They also mentioned that the third
youngest and active volcano, Hualalai, was way over due to erupt and was
expected to do so within the next 100 years! A nice thing to envision when
you’re resting your head at night on top of 5 volcanoes, one of which continues
to erupts at any given moment. It’s here that one can almost feel the soul of
Mother Nature… close up and personal and at Her most powerful.
As some of you may
have read from my other passages, I’ve heard from a few volcanoes before,
namely Diamond Head on Oahu and Mount Etna and Vesuvius in Italy. Even so, none
of my encounters were as close up and as personal as what I was seeing here.
At Volcanoes
National Park, if you’re willing to hike the 5 miles over rough lava to get
there, you can actually see the recent lava flow and feel the heat from the
most recent eruption. Since I was fine with just watching from the fiery
overlook at the Jaggar Museum up the road, I instead went to work asking the
volcanoes if they had any wisdom they wished to share. Like the volcanoes
before them, Kilauea was more than ready to take up my offer, and like every
Nature Spirit, in its own unique way.
Later, having been
more and more drawn lately to the Beings of legend that were instrumental in
creating our world (and still are according to Pele), I wondered if I might get
an interview from the great Fire Goddess herself…Pele. Revered as one of, if
not the greatest deity here in The Islands, I wanted to know what She felt
about the myths and legends that surrounded her and others like her… The
Ancients Ones that made up the foundation of our belief systems passed down
over the centuries. Were there really such things as ancient Gods and Goddess
and were the stories of great feats and miraculous occurrences really true?
As you’ll read in
the second passage…according to her they are. Pele tells us that anything is
possible if one believes it to be true. What is really amazing is that this great
Fire Goddess is still seen in this day and age, not only here in The Islands
but throughout the world during volcanic eruptions. Just imagination you say…I
think not. In the second passage Pele explains who She is, what She does and
why She still remains the Scared Goddess of The Islands and a legacy to our
world.
Passage One: The Volcano Kilauea
speaks
You come to me
today with questions, with dreams, with a reality awakened now to legend and a
new world. This is a place of renewal, long honored by those that looked for
what everyone searches for…the reality of being, of self, of beginnings. Here
in the islands many come to enjoy all that Nature provides. This is good. Even
so, here and only here can one truly understand creation in a form not seen in
other places.
The Earth, as one
sees it, consists of all that one sees around them…the trees, the plants, the
air, and the sea… the stars. But it’s more. For beneath the feet of those that
search is the answer, if indeed that’s something one wants to know.
As the volcanoes
of legend belonging to the goddess Pele or Pelehonuamea, this place is sacred to
those that still live among The Islands. It is, or was in the past, a mystery as
to why the land would erupt, bringing with the flow what the people needed to
survive. Times change, but the power that once caused panic is now accepted as
a means of growth to a land always searching for renewal.
Of survive you
ask, when you only see a volcano as a destructive force.
In truth that may
be so but only if one doesn’t respect what’s provided to those that live here.
The land, the air, the environment, they all benefit from what we, the volcanoes,
provide.
Deep inside this
planet a great fire burns, the fire of creation. Just as every species
recreates its own, this volcano is no different. After all, life is nothing
more than creating, isn’t that right? In this way we all becomes what we must to
be of service, to benefit others and to become more. Birth is a natural thing;
something each Being knows will bring about growth. It’s the same for me, Kilauea,
birthing with each eruption a new outgrowth; new land and a new being of soil,
air and water to bring about change.
One seldom thinks about
volcanoes like this, but we also benefit the all. That is why we continue
bringing with each eruption, new life from below to achieve a future above. To
build a land where humans like you can grow and learn and be a part of all that
surrounds them. This world is full of wonders and we, as such, accept this as
our part of the continuing process of renewal, of growth and of legend to the
great Goddess who still lives within us.
I am Kilauea and we
are the volcanoes of Hawaii. We honor She who rules us still.
A word from the great Fire
Goddess… Pelehonuamea or ‘Pele’
Do I exist?
Do you?
All things are
relative, isn’t that so? If you’re reading this then unlike many others you are
open to the idea. So we will continue.
Gods and
Goddesses, ghosts and visions, fairies and ancient beings such as I have always
been the subject of conjecture in your society. Did they exist? Do we exist and
if so for what purpose? All deities have meaning in that they bring what one isn’t
conscience of into the realm of understanding. When one doesn’t grasp the
situation, more so in the past than in present time, then one needs something
that will explain, that will clarify, that will bring meaning to that purpose.
If we were not ‘available’ as… the Beings of all creation, wisdom of ancient
powers and lost knowledge…then how could one explain, in their mind, why they
exist and who created them?
The Gods and
Goddesses’ of old, like myself Pele… bringer of light from a world of darkness
and creator of land by fire… taught the people of The Islands that things they
could not understand, could not see physically, existed. For some this is
relative to their beliefs because they can only understand things when they’re shown
to them. That was the way it was so long ago.
Yet this planet, and
the center of my universe as The Goddess of Fire, is more than just a symbol of
how this world was created. It is also a way for the past to become a pathway
to the future.
All cultures must
have their myths, their legends to bring them forward into the present. And
although many seem unrealistic, they are truly the beliefs of a people that
have survived throughout history because of them. It’s true that many have
forgotten the old ways, science and forward thinking erasing all that happened
in the past. And yet the world and these islands are full of things that time
and humankind cannot understand. For to exist in legend, to bring about change
and encourage growth is the purpose that Ones like me serve. We are humanities relatives, brought to kind
by what we have done and continue to do. Don’t dismiss us as ancient beings
because our purpose in this day and age is no longer reliable. No, we are everything
because we represent She, who rules us all. She is the Mother who guides the
hand of Nature and the fate of all that live within this world.
The steam may rise
and the fire still burn but the heart of this place, of these islands, is the
heart of why I, Pele, remain. All beliefs are sacred when they bring about
change, when they arouse more of what is needed for this planet to survive. I
am legend, but all things are when they dwell in the heart of those that
believe. Come to me when my fires rage and give thanks to She…Pele, the light
bringer, the land that She brings and the love of a people that exist still
within the spirit of Aloha.
Forever, or until
the Great Mother ceases to exist, I will remain Pelehonuamea, the bringer of
light to a world renewed.
In Conclusion
May the volcanoes,
in no matter what country, alive or extinct, make us all realize that Nature
alone is more powerful than any entity on Earth. Hopefully after you’ve read what they have to
say, you can understand more fully why they exist and what their purpose was
and still is to our world.
Here in The Islands,
especially on the Big Island, the continuing eruptions are increasing the size
of the island, so much so that they say that someday one or more of them could combine
to become one larger island. Things
become less threatening when one understands their purpose and not more so than
what we’ve learned from my visit to this wonderful place. I hope that one day
all of you may get the opportunity to visit a volcano. It doesn’t have alive or
even in Hawaii, it can be anywhere…even where it once existed. When you do I
ask that you say thank you for all it, and its counterparts, have provided our
planets over the eons they has existed on this plane. Because without the land
that the volcanoes have given us, many of us would still be swimming in the
ocean.
Later that night
after watching the fire rage in the Caldera, so near and yet worlds away, I
couldn’t help but feel the awe that the people of Hawaii still feel for their
Goddess Pele… She who has brought them so much over the years.
May her legend
never die and may the Goddess Pelehonuamea continue to provide the spirit of
Aloha that welcomes all of us to the paradise of these islands.
Mahalo…Thanks,
Cheri
